Why is my car a total loss/write-off?

Your car will be a ‘total loss’ or ‘write off’ if we consider the car damage is beyond economic repair, or if it would cost too much to repair versus the value of the car.

We may also choose to deal with your claim as a total loss in other circumstances where it isn’t possible to repair your car such as:

  • If the parts are no longer available or damage has been caused to mechanical or electrical components on your vehicle that can’t be repaired.
  • The damage to your car doesn’t have to be extensive for it to be written off.

For example: If it has a cosmetic scrape along one side and the cost of repairing and transporting it is more than the car’s actual value.
