What happens if the car accident wasn't my fault?

If you have a comprehensive policy, we'll assess your vehicle to determine if it can be repaired or if it's a total loss.

Provided the third party have accepted liability and we've recovered the total cost of the claim from them, your No Claims Discount won't be reduced.

If your policy is Third Party, Fire & Theft, you still need to call our Claims team to let us know what's happened. We can collect some information about the incident and let you know what will happen next.

Unlike comprehensive insurance, it doesn't cover you for accidental damage or vandalism to your own car. This means that your car isn't covered for repairs or replacement after an accident and it's your obligation to contact the Third Party Insurer, unless Motor Legal Expenses is included in your policy.

If you're looking to make a windscreen claim, all comprehensive policies (except 1st Central Value) provide windscreen cover as standard. If you are covered, and the glass can be fixed, there’s a £25 excess. If it needs replacing and you have a Connect policy, the excess payable is £125. If you have any of the Core policies, your glass replacement excess is £150.
